Integrating long-distance measurement into a compact device requires careful control of size, weight and power consumption. The X-Dynamics XD-S200S brings these requirements together in a miniature 905 nm laser ranging module, offering measurement distances of up to 1,200 metres in a body weighing just 6.5 grams.

Combining SPAD sensor technology with an in-house calibration algorithm, the XD-S200S gives equipment manufacturers a compact ranging solution for handheld instruments, lightweight airborne systems and outdoor optical devices.

Long-Distance Measurement in a Small Footprint

Measuring only 10.2 × 16.5 × 25.2 mm, the XD-S200S fits applications where installation space is limited. Its low weight helps designers manage the overall mass of portable products and airborne payloads while retaining room for other components.

For OEM and ODM teams, this compact format opens up more flexibility when developing a new device or adding distance measurement to an existing design.

Measurement Coverage from 0.1 to 1,200 Metres

The XD-S200S supports a specified measurement range of 0.1–1,200 m, covering both short-distance detection and long-range measurement within one module.

Its specified accuracy is ±1 m within 400 m, and ±0.4% of full scale above 400 m. Actual ranging performance depends on target reflectivity, target size, ambient light, atmospheric conditions and system integration.

SPAD sensor technology and the module’s calibration algorithm support distance measurement in a compact optical architecture, making the XD-S200S a practical option for products that need extended reach without a large sensor assembly.

Low Power Consumption for Portable Equipment

Power consumption directly affects battery life and thermal design in compact equipment. The XD-S200S has a specified standby power consumption of no more than 1.5 mW and average operating power consumption of no more than 450 mW.

These characteristics support integration into battery-powered rangefinders, portable industrial instruments and lightweight sensing systems. Manufacturers can manage measurement activity around their application’s operating cycle to balance response requirements and energy use.

Designed for Outdoor Integration

The XD-S200S uses a 905 nm laser specified as Class 1, supporting applications where eye safety is an important design requirement. Final equipment should still be assessed in its complete configuration, including the optical arrangement and operating controls.

The module has a specified operating temperature range of −20°C to +60°C and shock resistance of 1,200 G. These specifications provide a useful starting point for equipment intended for outdoor use, vibration or handling impacts. Validation under the finished product’s actual operating conditions remains essential.

Straightforward Serial Communication

A 3.3 V TTL serial interface and supporting command set allow development teams to connect the XD-S200S to a host controller, configure measurements and read distance data.

For equipment manufacturers and system integrators, access to serial commands helps simplify prototype development and integration into existing control systems.

Applications Across Portable and Airborne Devices

The XD-S200S is suited to applications where long-range measurement must fit within a small, lightweight assembly.

In golf laser rangefinders, its compact dimensions and low power consumption support portable product designs. In small UAVs and gimbal systems, its low mass helps limit the weight added by the ranging function.

The module can also support outdoor observation equipment, handheld industrial measuring instruments and perimeter monitoring systems, subject to the target characteristics and performance requirements of each application.

Build Compact Products with Extended Ranging Capability

The XD-S200S combines up to 1,200 m ranging capability, a 6.5 g body and low power consumption in a miniature module. It gives rangefinder manufacturers, UAV solution providers, optical equipment developers and system integrators a flexible component for space-constrained designs.
